About Us Our Common Bond

A credit unionís common bond governs its membership.  If an individual qualifies for membership under the credit unionís common bond and meets all the other requirements for membership, then he or she is eligible to join.

Two types of Common Bond

There are two types of common bond:  employment related and geographical.  In the first, the members are all employed by the same employer or working in the same field.  In the second, the members all live or work in the same geographical area.

Our common Bond

Derry Credit Unionís common bond is geographical.  In addition to meeting our other requirements for membership (i.e. you have completed an application form, you are age 16 or over, have a proposer and seconder, and are able to produce two acceptable forms of identification), you must also meet our common bond requirement in order to join.

If you live or work within Derryís city side up to the Donegal border or within the Waterside up to the old city boundaries, you meet our common bond requirement.  In addition, we also consider family members who reside in the same household as a directly qualifying member as meeting our common bond requirement.

If you arenít sure whether or not you meet our common bond requirement, please ask at Reception.  We have a map designating our common bond that can clarify whether or not you may join Derry Credit Union Limited.
